Capri to Positano via Sorrento (ferry schedule issues)?

Hello all:

We are leaving next week for Italy (hurrah!) but I think the Capri-Positano transit leg may have hit a snag (boo!) When we made our hotel reservations, we planned on 3 nights Capri and then tacked on one last night in Positano, because I *really* wanted to check out Le Sireneuse. At the time, the ferry schedule was showing an 11:00 am ferry from Capri to Positano - perfect. Now, however, it is showing that the first ferry of the day is at 3. We really wanted to leave earlier than that as we only have 1 night in Positano, so I'm wondering ... does it make sense to ferry to Sorrento and then go mainland to Positano? Are there taxis or would we have to take the bus?

Grr ... the best laid plans ...!

Thanks so much!

I would contact the Sirenuse and ask them about the ferry schedules for the day you are going there. They will have current local info and will probably be very helpful.

You can take a cab from Sorrento to Positano, would probably be 70 - 80 euro. (We did it a couple of years ago).

I suspect that Le Sirenuse will be able to assist you with getting to Positano from Capri.

On their website, they say they can arrange to have a private car pick-up from Naples Airport, so surely, they would be able to arrange to have you picked up in Sorrento. Or possibly, they may be able to arrange to have a boat pick you up from Capri?

Hi Ab - For an earlier departure you can easily go via Sorrento.

From Sorrento you can continue to Positano by:

- hydrofoil (www.metrodelmare.com)
- bus (- from Sorrento station)
- taxi or pre-booked limo (- expect to pay € 50-60)

Hope this helps ...

We are actually going to Capri and onto Positano next week as well! After looking into all of the options, we have decided to take a ferry or hydrofoil to Sorrento and then another hydrofoil to Positano. Seems like this is the most economical and scenic way if you want to enjoy the day in Positano. Good Luck! We will be traveling Capri to Positano on the 17th.
