Capri Hotels

I would appreciate any reviews from recent visits to Hotel Luna, Hotel Minerva and Hotel A'Paziella. My husband and I are planning to visit in May.

Many thanks.

Gemini - DW and I stayed at La Minerva a year ago and loved it. We had a Deluxe Double with a huge terrace - breakfast table and 4 chairs, 3-4 chaise lounges, views of Faraglioni and Norwegian pines, gorgeous views. Not inexpensive, but Capri is not an inexpensive place. Well located for walks, proximity to Augustus gardens, central piazza, restaurants, etc. Our trip report also provides some photos you might like.

We stayed in La Minerva and loved it.

We arrived at the port on our first day, and I must admit it was a really long walk to the hotel - especially lugging bags. But, most hotels are in this area, so most are a long walk. The street that the hotel is located on is quiet, and near some very pretty walking paths. It is not in the hussle and bustle of Capri Town, but is within easy walking distance through a series of lovely alleyways lined with trees.

The hotel itself was very meditteranean in style, clean and welcoming. The staff was extremely friendly and accomadating. They gave us wonderful recommendations for dinners out, and called and made reservations for us. Breakfasts were a delicious assortment of breads, jams, meats, juice and fabulous coffee served outside on a pretty patio.

Our room was wonderful..... The décor was very pretty (not "hotel-like" or cheesy) with a blue and white tile floor and sizable bathroom. We had a lovely terrace which we sat at and drank wine. The view was very pretty overlooking the water. I THINK it was room #11., (but not positive. It was located on the same level as the main lobby and faced the ocean). The hotel is built against a hill - so Im not sure what the views are like in the rest of the rooms. But Im sure you can request a view.

Highly recommended - you wouldn't be sorry about staying here at all.

A friend e-mailed from the road recently and say the Luna is fantastic, really exceeded his expectations.

I returned last week from the Quisisana, and it was quite the wonderful experience.

Buon Viaggio,

We stayed at La Minerva July 3 and July 4, 2006 and this is from my journal:

When we arrived at the Marina Grande, we gave our six suitcases to a porter for transport to La Minerva Hotel for the cost of eight euro, and we rode the Funicular to the Piazzeta.

La Minerva is a short walking distance from the Via Camerelle, tucked away on a peaceful pedestrian-only walkway. Mauriano was at the front desk and he assigned us rooms 31, 32 and 33. My husband and I had room 33, which is the largest, but all three (adjacent) rooms have spacious terraces that face the Bay of Naples affording guests fantastic views on the upper levels otherwise enjoyed by soaring birds.

The rooms and bathrooms were decorated “like the sea,” bright white walls, high ceilings with blue and white ceramic floor tiles, spotlessly clean.

La Minerva is perched on a hillside over looking the Bay of Naples. The main level of this hotel consists primarily of an “expansive living room.” It is decorated with an appropriate degree of understatement, so as not to steal your eyes away from the surrounding natural splendor of this island.

I would stay at La Minerva again - in a heartbeat.

Thank you all for your wonderful and speedy replies. Really appreciate that! It looks like it's La Minerva for us!
And "Knoxvillecouple", I've printed out your "Trip of a Lifetime" Journal and can't wait to read it!!

On another note, we will also be visitng the Amalfi Coast, for the first time, in May for 3 nights. Our hotel of choice in Ravello (Villa Cimbrone) only has 2 nights available and our itinerary can't be stretched. We're thinking about spending the 1st night in Positano and then going to Ravello for the other 2 nights. Do you think this would be too much shuttling around in 3 days? Also, could you advise how long it takes to drive to Positano from Ravelllo? -- minimum/maximum.(We'll have our own car). Thanks again so much for your great assistance.

Having just returned a few weeks ago (check out my trip report I would opt for three days in Positano and make Ravello a day trip.

Are you sure you want a car? Those roads are like nothing you have ever been on.

Hi again Gemini - hope you like the trip report. Ravello is, without doubt, beautiful. It's also very high (nice views of the Med way down there), pretty quiet, and not as funky, IMHO, as Amalfi, Positano, Praiano (Ira's favorite I think). We spent two nights in Positano at La Tartana - much more modest than La Minerva in Capri (as I recall 150 € per night) but extraordinary views of the harbor as well as "up the hill." I'm not good on distances since we hired a driver while on the Amalfi Coast (didn't really want the headaches associated with driving AND parking on the AC), but as the crow flies it's not far. But cars don't fly - it's probably a 30 minute drive at least from Positano to Ravello.

Definetly spend the 3 nights in Positano.
You wont want to be moving around so much - especially with all the steps.
Positano makes an excellent base for day trips. We took day trips to Amalfi, Ravello and spent some time in Atrani, Priano and the Green Grotto (which was just as cool as the blue grotto in my opinion. We also took a day trip to Pompeii (but that might be too ambitious for just 3 days.

Positano has a great variety of shops and restaurants, and beautiful views from terraces! It is very romantic and convenient to travel to other towns.
We stayed in the Albergo Miramare. Rooms definetly not as nice as La Minerva, but we stayed in the annex (cheaper but not as nice as main building, which is praised on this forum). Best part about the hotel was a free (and one of highlights of our trips) boat ride with room!

PS - dont rent a car.
