Capri/Amalfi in late October
The last week of October we are planning a trip to Capri for a night, then a ferry to Amalfi for several nights then off to Florence. How is the weather in Capri/Amalfi that time of year? Could we really get stuck on Capri? Will the fog be thick and make the view in the Amalfi coast not worth it?

It is extremely unlikely you could be stranded on Capri. There are commuters who cross every day between Capri and the mainland, and the weather has to be exceptionally bad for all sailings to be suspended.
The service from Amalfi to Capri is a summer tourist service so could easily be suspended in October. There are year-round ferries from Capri to Sorrento and Napoli, and these are very rarely stopped by the weather. In my experience, fog is rare in the that area, and rough seas are a more likely cause of cancelled sailings.

Have you been to these places before? If not, I'd considering waiting until you can see them properly--during the Summer.
Does anyone know if restaurants will be open? Will the place have the lost, deserted feel about it that I remembering someone describing on this board in relation to the Amalfi Coast during the off season?

Ni NLB,
It's not as if they shut down and everyone goes somewhere else.
Many shops, etc will be closed, others will be open.
Some ferries will be running.
Some days will be pleasant, others won't.
You definitely will not have crowds.

Looks like high's in the 60's Fahrenheit for late October. And a lot more rain than in the summer. Sorry, but again, for me the Amalfi Coast and Capri are all about the sun and the water, as well as the views. How were you planning to spend your time? Perhaps the sun and swimming are not what you're going for???

No one can give you the definitive answers you want. If we could, we'd have well-paying jobs as weather forecasters.
We've had great weather the last week of October. Sandals and T-shirts kind of weather. No rain. Maybe we've just been lucky.
As GeoffHamer mentioned, the ferry service from Capri to the town of Amalfi is seasonal and usually ends around mid-October or after the third weekend of October.
As far as getting stuck on Capri, I can think of worse things.

nlb, our only experience on the Amalfi coast was the first week of November last year. The 4 days we were in Sorrento the weather was comfortable days, in the 60-70's, cool nights, 50's and no rain. We choose visits to Pompeii and Naples rather than Capri but I'm sure Capri was enjoying the same weather at that time. If you want to go to the Amalfi coast and this is the only time, I would tell you to go. We certainly enjoyed our stay. Deborah

We went in early Oct and it was cold and foggy. Many of the rest. and stores were closing. The blue grotto was closed because of rough waters. We ended up leaving earlier than planned because there was nothing to do. The area is beautiful if you want to just relax otherwise I agree with others go earlier in season.
