Canterbury from London...which train station

Hi,
We are checking out train schedules for a sunday day trip to Canterbury and it appears that we have two choices...
You can
leave from either London Victoria station or London Charring Cross
station. Then you get in to Canterbury on either the east or west
station. I have no idea which is better. the other difference is you
change trains in a different town.
We are staying in Bloomsbury.
Thanks!
STP

Hello STP, I used to regularly visit a friend in Canterbury when I was in London and took which ever train (Charring Cross or Victoria) best met my schedule. The walk into town was easy from either Cant East or Cant West. It's been a couple of years but I recall Victoria went to the East station and Charring X went to the West one. I'm sure someone will jump to correct if I'm wrong about this.

Both London stations are convenient to the Bloomsbury area.

I went to Canterbury oon a day trip from London last year, we went from Victoria Station to Canterbury East, but the Canterbury West station seemed to be so close to the same distance from the city center (Canterbury Cathedral) as to not really matter which one you use. Both are within easy walking distance of the main sites in town. If you visit the Cathedral, be sure to stop and buy a photo pass for £1 which allows you to take pictures inside the Cathedral. The booth is off to the side after you pay for your admission ticket.

Thanks! Did you buy tickets in advance or at the train station? I priced it out and it is about 17 pounds round trip from www.trainline.com.
Thanks!

When we went we had purchased BritRail passes before leaving the U.S., so we didn't have to buy individual train tickets at all. Admission to Canterbury Cathedral you just pay at the entrance gate.
