Magnus;
Your reply was typical; if you don't agree with a site's information, you cast it aside as left slanted. You seem to be an expert on all these other WMD Iraq has. Where is your documentation?

wren;
If it was up to me I would call for a resolution that would put an army of inspectors on the ground in Iraq. France would have a hard time avoiding that. Many posters here will scream "Inspections don't work" well they or I can't say that for sure. If you listen to Scott Ritter who was an inspector and knows a lot more about it than anyone posting here would. He says the inspections were, in fact working very well. If Saddam refuses a resolution like the one I've suggested, then I think he will be cutting his own throat. The result of a refusal would certainly gain the U.S. a host of international support.
My other suggestion would be put just one of the billions of dollars we are spending on Saddam's head, I'm sure there would be a flood of attempts on his life which would end up with him gone or else so afraid to show his face anywhere as to be totally ineffective as a dictator. Either way the cost in lives, money, and international relations would be enormously cheaper.
So that is my opinion wren, many of the chest thumpers will start shouting it down, but they are entitled to their opinion too. It doesn't make them or me right though. What I'm saying to you is check ALL the angles and research on whatever someone tells you, be it conservative or liberal. Don't ever take something at face value just because someone (the Pres. or anyone on the street) tells you it is the right thing to do.

Magnus: If we invade and "find something"- chemical weapons etc, will the Made in USA labels have faded by now?? As I previously stated, the war script lie began last year when Bush and Rumsfeld declared that the Atomic International Energy Commission filed a report that Iraq would have a potent nuclear arsenal within 4-5 years. Gee, as it turned out, no such report was ever filed. Then we fail to hand over any "proof" to the inspectors, then Rumsfeld continues to open mouth and insert foot - Wonder why the Admin. has developed a world wide credibility problem. Makes you wonder if we "find something" will it be Iraqi weapons or CIA plants. Now even the Brits want to extend the deadline, so I guess all the major powers in the world are wrong and the USA is right.

You have a long standing love of France and the US has a generations-long alliance with France. It is so amazing how you and others are willing to trash France because they do not agree with starting a war.

Scott Ritter has lost all credibility with me, especially since he was arrested for soliciting sex from a minor female. Also, why his sudden change,..no matter, I would still not trust him

What I find amazing is the forged Niger documents have been a lead story in the europran and canadian press for over a week and it is only today that they have appeared in the US news, MMMMMmmmm can it be that we are not getting the full story?

What does Scott Ritter gain from lying about Iraq? Wheras Bush and Rumsfeld, who have demonstrated a propensity for mistruths since last year, will clearly stop at nothing to justify this war.
Sammy;
Knew you would turn up at some point.
We've been down the road of sources before. Anything you don't agree with is left slant. That's a big surprise!
At least I'll read all opinions from both sides and make a judgement, which it seems you are, as usual, too blinded to do. And that "left sided" site you talk about quotes from all manner of reliable sources. CNN, Newsweek etc.
Oh, I forgot, to you they are all left sided.

I shared this e-news/e-letter that I received today from the France Government Tourist Office (and posted on another thread). Thought it might ease a few minds.

"In light of the current situation with Iraq and the different positions of the American and French governments, I wish to take this opportunity to address certain concerns you may have about traveling to France.

I would first like to emphasize that Americans have always been and will always be welcome in France. Since the late 1940s it is estimated that 35 million Americans, over 12% of the U.S. population, have already come to France at least once in their lifetime.

I am certain that a few American visitors will be asked about the U.S. Administration's policy on Iraq out of concern and a genuine wish to understand. But if indeed, as has recently been reported, there have been some unpleasant encounters, I strongly believe that they were few and far between. Speaking as a Frenchman and for the overwhelming majority of my fellow countrymen, I consider any such behavior embarrassing, offensive and ultimately very ignorant. We believe that travel is about people meeting people to better know and understand each other. In the end, there is much more that brings us together than what divides us. In life it is not the similarities that enrich us but rather the differences. We look forward to demonstrating our true hospitality and friendship on your next visit.
Patrick Goyet, Director U.S.A., French Government Tourist Office"

Beatle;
Quote of the day:
This was in response to the stopping Hitler at Munich analogy people some people are using today with Iraq.

"Perhaps someday, after America has attacked Iraq, and then Iran, and then Syria, and North Korea, and Saudi Arabia, Colombia, the Sudan, Zimbabwe, Guatemala, Morocco, Togo, Denmark, and Lapland, people will be saying, "If only they'd stopped Bush at Baghdad!"
