i put my request for apartment in rome thru vrbo. whats the cancellation procedure, i submitted for air condition apartment but was given an apartment without ac. i found out about this after i submitted my credit card info. for deposit. i called the agent 20 min. after i give my approval but i did not get any response.

Go back to vrbo.com and read the DISCLAIMER section, where, among other things, it says each property sets its own cancellation policies.

Now, just in case things don't go well and you can't cancel without a huge penalty, don't despair: many properties that say they have AC may not actually permit its use until July or August, even if it is a sweltering April day. So it might not make a bit of difference whether you booked with AC or not.

Second - take this as a learning experience. You'll know next time to find out and understand the cancellation policies and the fine print BEFORE you hand over your credit card.

I am confused. Each apartment has its own description and VRBO doesn't "give" you an apartment - you pick it.

A Sue says, since you are dealing w/ a specific owner/apartment the cancellation rules are not VRBO's.

As janisj says, you picked an apartment. If you're saying their ad said it was AC and now you find it isn't, you have good reason to get your money back. If you're saying you failed to notice that it didn't have AC and you booked it anyway, I think you may be out of luck, or at least you will be bound to that owner's rules.

i submitted for an specific apartment in rome for the month of june for 4 days total but when the agent responded I was informed that the apartment is not available and she has another apartment close by with ac, when i reply again to accept the alternate apartment she inform me again that the apartment was also rented she has another apartment which will be ideal for my family. when i inquire about this apartment and ask her the specific area and transportation i forgot to inquire about the ac. I right away call her in 20 min to inquire and was inform that there will be no ac in this apartment. and that she already submitted my application to this apartment. I ask her if she can find us a place within the area close to navona, pantheon and spanish steps with ac. until now i have no response. I am getting frustrated with our vacation plans. I am also having a problem with my reservation in paris. that will be my next problem to tackle.

You are not dealing with VRBO. You are dealing with someone whose business is renting apartments who happens to have posted something on VRBO. It would appear that VRBO does not have a rule that only owners may post, as I have seen many like this.

To respond to your question - yes, you can cancel. Notify your credit card company at once to decline any charge that comes from this place. That's easier than disputing a charge later.

good luck on that one, as it appears that technically you rented the place. I agree the owner should have asked you or warned you that it did not have AC as you had mentioned it before, but still -- you said ok and didn't ask about the AC, and gave them your CC number.

The rest of it isn't anything unusual, lots of European private rental apts do get booked in-between you asking about them and then deciding, and many do not have AC.

I never do this kind of stuff when renting a vacation apt., so as not to have problems, and that's worked for me. I only give them a deposit or CC number after I have read the agreement and know the exact apartment and have things in writing. I wouldn't ever do it without knowing the cancellation policy, either, so you may be out something.

At least you weren't renting for long so the cost can't be too high if you forfeit some deposit. It sounds like you haven't heard the final results, though, so maybe things will work out.
