can you help me with Paris Arrondissement?

I would like to rent an apartment in Pais but I do not know where to start. All i know is I want the location to be in the middle of shopping, cafes and cinemas. Which Arrondissement is that? I want an area equivilent to the shopping in knightsbridge london.

It's not critical at all where you stay as long as you're in the central area. The various areas (arrondisements) are right next to each other, across the street from each other. There's no great demarcation line. Everyone has their own favorite area they will argue for, from the Latin Quarter to St Germain to the Islands to the Marais to the Louvre area and on and on. You'll be out and about the whole city anyway, and the city is so easy to get around you can go to most areas quickly and easily for sites, restaurants, etc. The 1st, 4th, parts of the 5th, the 6th, parts of the 7th, 8th - they would all be fine for a first timer. The closer to the center the better. You'll find cafes, restaurants, shops all over. For more Paris information go to www.anamericaninparis.com

I would recommend the 6th. Around the Latin Quarter. There is the Odeon cimema on Blvd St Germain, so many restaurants, bistros and cafes! Shopping, bookstores, wonderful places to just walk and look.
I agree about the 6th (Hey, I live there...), but since you asked for a Knightsbridge equivalent, the arrondissement for you would be the 7th. Since it's very close to the 6th, you'll get all the possible advantages within walking distance!

Really, either the 6th or 5th, but not past Blvd. St. Michel. The 7th as well, or across the Seine, the 1st and 4th. The 6th is terrific, to be sure - my orginal stamping grounds years and years ago - but it's overempasized on this website. Suggest you check your Michelin for street such as Rue de St. Honore, rear Place Vendome - also a superb area for living, walking, dining, etc. Equivalent to Knightsbridge, I believe. And by all means, look in into the Marais area as well. Purchase an Access Guide - will tell you very quickly about shopping in the various areas. Have a good trip.

There are lots of areas that could fit the description of being around cafes, cinemas and shopping. I think the area around Bon Marche, the border of the 6th/7th would be a good choice for what you want, although I don't know that there are cinemas right there, but certainly not far (especially by metro). Otherwise, I agree the 6th probably, on the Left Bank. There are plenty of areas on the Right Bank that fit that also, the Marais, Madeleine or Opera areas would.

I don't agree the 7th in general (far away from the 6th border) fits that description, at least regarding cinemas. I don't understand the above comment on the 5th as bd St-Michel is the border of the 5th/6th and you can't be in the 5th and not be past bd St-Michel.

Precisely, Chritina - and the question pertained to Knightsbridge. Stay along St. Michel, between the river and Montparnasse, but as a general rule no further east into the 5th, unless it's along the river, and perhaps a few blocks south.
