Cambridge worth a day trip?

Will be in London Dec 27-Jan2. Have been twice and seen most of the sights. Curious about Cambridge -would there be much worthwhile that could be seen on a day trip?
That time of year may be slow there but wondering if it is worth a 1 1/4 hour train ride up to walk around?

YES!

It'll be a really good break from the chaos of London, it won't be too busy (that's a real bonus) and if the sky is blue, it'll be beautiful.

If you need any advice, just ask (I lived there for four years and go back regularly). Only one thing to bear in mind, it will be cold!! But then so will most of England in December!

Hi Steve, we spent the day in Cambridge last October and had a wonderful time. The city is beautiful, many bus tours of the University and city are offered.

Nearby is the Duxford Air Museum (if you're interested in WWII Aviation) and the American Cemetary. Over 3,300 Americans who lost their lives in WWII are buried at the Cambridge American Cemetary --- it's similar to the large cemetary at Normandy. Email me if you have any questions.

Steve:We did Cambridge from London and loved it.There are periodic tours from the tourist information center.Ours was conducted by an American women who had married a Cam.professor.She did an excellent job.Don't miss King Chapel with its beatutiful stained glass.Try to have lunch or a drink at the Eagle pub. It's back room was a hang out for airmen during WWII.The ceiling is covered with fliers grafitti which has been preserved. You can read while enjoying a pint.Have a great trip.

Cambridge is a great day trip - but do remember that the colleges will be pretty much empty and shut down for the holidays. And walking tours may be more limited than normal. But there would still be enough to fill your time.

If you just want a day trip you might want to consider someplace not so "college-centric" (Cambridge, Oxford). But if you really want to see Cambridge it is a lovely city.
