Patrick, In a previous post, you said,

"I know lots of great places where I can get a wonderful meal for $20 or $30 a person. And a FANTASTIC bottle of wine for under $20 in a nice restaurant. Try that at home!!! The morning coffee in a local cafe will be less than my Starbuck's at home."

We will also be staying in the 5th in June with our 18 year old son, and would love it if you could share some of your suggestions...when exactly are you going to be there btw?

Hi Mike, Actually I have searched here quite a lot...came up with Chez Denise, Chez Clovis, L'Os a Moelle, and Le Florimond, and another bistro in the 7th whose name slips my memory ...as well as a few more...I just wanted especially to hear Patrick's suggestions...in hopes that there might be something I hadn't seen yet.

Yes, I've posted many of those suggestions many times before, and many of my favorites have come from here via other posters as well. You can get a real wealth of these by doing a search.

We'll be in Paris from July 17 to 27.

Off hand, a few favorite places though. The prices are in euros and show what we spent for the two of us for dinner last summer including wine:

Outdoor markets are at the Maubert metro station Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; Place Monge Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Also there is a permanent market at the bottom of the rue Mouffetard.

On rue Monge, don't miss the wonderful Kayser bakery.

Wren you cannot have a fantastic dinner with a great bottle of wine at Chez Denise for 14 to 22 euro ($20-$30 USD). I am sorry to say that but it is true. You would have to double the amount, at least. I suspect the same is true at Chez Clovis.

wren: Quite a few people recommended to me AUBERGE JARENTE on rue Jarente in the Marais district (4th). Apparently their cassoulet is wonderful.

WARNING: Any restaurant with good food and a good deal will require reservations. For some reason, I thought I could just walk in, but that was not the case. Enjoy!

Louis Vins in the 5th, where two courses of fantastic food will cost 23 euro. Or three courses for 26. Great wines cheap and by the glass as well.

wren, Le Pre Verre is one of my favorites, hopefully their price hasn't increased much higher than it was in August. We had 4 prix fixe dinners, a bottle of wine, aperitifs, the total price was $171.75 with euro at 1.28 per my credit card statement.

We also had a wonderful lunch at Chez Clement on the Champs-Elysees, lunch for two was $37.17.

Just by wandering around in the 5th we have found delightful meals that met our budget. Deborah
