" I don't think their prices are all that good, though, especially compared to what these things cost in America"

It is always a mistake to think this way. You aren't in America. Things wil be different. Some things will be more expensive, others will be cheaper. You can only assume that they won't be the same.

Add in the agony of dragging the oven on a train and boat from Mestre and the prices at Ratti may not seem so bad.

Personally I'd just make do with a stovetop. I could easily live without an oven or microwave for a month. And no I wouldn't only eat pasta.

Ellenem--thank you. I'm off to Ratti shortly to check out their prices. Greenway, I don't believe I mentioned America in my post. I've lived in Italy (five years), Spain (two yearrs), Ireland (months), and France (months) so believe I know a bit about Europe and its prices. Suze, Glad you could live with cooking solely on stove top, but it's not my preference.

I think there is an appliance shop as you walk from Campo Margeurita towards Campo San Barnaba in Dorsoduro. It is on your left.

I don't know, but if I were in Venice and I needed a microwave I wouldn't ask Americans on a travel forum where to buy one; I would ask around my neighbourhood.

Don't you go out?

Don't you talk to people in coffee bars and shops?

And maybe people here think you are living in the US because you have IN MANHATTAN in your screen name.

>>>I wouldn't ask Americans on a travel forum where to buy one<<<

Not everyone on the forum lives in the US. There are a few posters that live in Venice.

I don't understand the benefit of a microwave since you already have a stove top. I would think a toaster oven would be more beneficial.

Pepper, you said it like I said it earlier today, but the big F deleted my post.

I'd prefer a toaster oven, but they tend to make apt owners nervous because they can be a fire hazard.

I understand that, ky

But the OP writes that she has lived in Italy for 5 years. I would think her Italian would be flawless by now.

Why not ask neighbours who would know where to shop?
