I don't know if "rare" and "not overpriced" go together, but I found some pieces I like very much at Genninger's. It was recommended here. I bought 3 necklaces, 1 bracelet, and about 10 pair of inexpensive earrings, and 6 bar glasses for apx. $1000.

Proietto Perle, Castello 4308 Modern styling on glass-bead jewelry <BR><BR>also<BR>Perle Veneziane, Pondte della Canonica 4308, San Marco. They may have other shops in Venice; I know they also have one at the airport. Beautiful jewelry made of Venetian glass beads.
