Business in Munich

My husband might be going on a 2+ month assignment in Munich over the summer. We plan on the whole family going along (me, 2 small kids). We don't expect fancy accomodations, but can anyone recommend reasonably priced hotel which might have a small kitchenette in the room? Would this include a small refrigerator and hot plate/stove/something to cook on?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

GG, maybe your husband's company could assist in finding accommodations for you. An apartment may work out better for your needs. It sure would be inconvenient to live in a hotel room, even with a kitchenette for 2+ months with small children.

Well, here's the thing. We don't know that his company will consider this any thing other than a business trip for him. We are not planning on them getting the whole family over there/providing accomodations such as they would for a long term relocation. So, at this point we're not sure what accomodations they might suggest for him. That's why I am trying to find something which would at least have a kitchenette/bathroom etc at a very reasonable price. We realize a hotel setting would be a challenge, but being apart for a few months is even worse in our opinion. Soooo... we are trying to work it out so that we can all go.

He'll be working at BWM while there, so if anyone knows of any place to stay in that area that might work out well for our situation, please let me know. I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Short-term accommodation for a family within Munich will be quite expensive. If you don't mind staying a little further out, but still within a short suburban train (S-Bahn) ride away, you may consider places like Freising or Starnberg. They are small tourist resorts and have plenty of self-catering accommodation (Ferienwohnung) which can be rented by the week quite economically. They will be definitely cheaper than hotels and provide more rooms and facilities (separate bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, often balcony and garden). Tourist offices and their websites should have details. They start from around 50 to 70 euro per day.

Alec has a very good recommendation - definitely go for Starnberg ahead of Freising as it is on a large lake (Starnbergersee)and so much better for kids. Starnberg is regarded as one of the two richest towns/suburbs in Germany, so you will certainly not be slumming it. Also add Tutzing - end station 3 stops further than Starnberg with fast trains as well as tube. It has better places for swimming than Starnberg.
Also see Country Inns and Suites -will give kitchenettes and aimed at your type of situation, but locations include rather drab 70s-80s suburbs like Johanneskirchen (lived there for 3 mths in corporate apartment), serving offices like Compaq.

I would defintely recommend trying to find an apartment for rent for this extended visit. There are several options available if you search on google. If nothing appeals to you on this site I suggest you contact the local tourist bureaus re: short term leases. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.

Try this link;

It lists hotels, apartments, etc.

I highly recommend www.mrlodge.com for temporary furnished apartments in munich. I used this service last year for a one-year stay in Munich and I would go nowhere else but this website if I had to take furnished accomodations again in the future.

This route is a lot cheaper than a furnished aparthotel, which I looked into. Costs for extended stay hotels would run at least 2,200 Euro per month for a room big enough for your family.
