Bus from Pisa to Lucca

I am planning on traveling from Pisa to Lucca on July 10- I heard that there is a bus that leaves right from the Leaning Tower/Duomo area? Is this true, if so, can someone tell me where exactly? If not, where is the Pisa central bus station, and how often do buses leave to Lucca?

Also, I'll be in Rome before that, and was wondering if the Vatican Museums (or other churches) will turn me away if I'm wearing open-foot sandals - the ones w strap across toes and heel, etc...
Thanks.

Do you specifically need a bus ?
Trains from Pisa San Rossore (The station near to the Campo Dei Miracoli) run regularly to Lucca in about 15 minutes.

We took the bus from Lucca and back about three years ago. The bus station was just a few blocks from our hotel (Palazzo Alexander).

In Pisa, we got off and on the bus right in front of the Tower complex. We had a good lunch at a small restaurant just down the street.

The bus ride was short, and we drove through several interesting little towns.

Thanks, Byrd.
I do want to take the bus rather than train because a) the bus lets you off INSIDE Lucca and b) I don't want to have to drag all the way back to Pisa Centrale to take the train and c) I won't really be travelling too much thru Tuscany and I think the bus ride brings you a bit 'closer' to the countryside than does a train ride (such was my experience in travelling thru Israel, at least).
Thanks.
