Burgundy Area of France

Just a thought Chablis, St Bris and Irancy is technically in Burgundy. Lots of nice churches/hospice/abbeys in this area. Auxerre is lovely old city/town. SOuth of Auxerrw is a great national park with castles and stuff (not your traditional Burgundy trip) any interest?

We spent a week in Burgundy in September 2004, renting a cottage on the grounds of a chateau B&B near Pouilly-en-Auxois, about 30 minutes from both Beaune and Dijon. We loved it! This was a great location for exploring many parts of Burgundy. For info on this wonderful cottage and the B&B, see http://www.creancey.com/

See Part 3 of my recent trip report - we stayed in Beaune and I have a number of recommendations. Beaune would be a good base in March as there will not be as many tourists at that time. Stay in or travel to Beaune for the Saturday market.
La Table de Olivier Leflaive is a treat if you are a wine fan.

We had a wonderful stay at Chateau D'Ige in Burgundy this past September. It's in a tiny town, Ige. It was fabulous. It has a magnficent restaurant and if you are a guest there, you have a table reserved. They are the nicest people there. We are planning on going back for a longer stay.

We just looooved Burgundy ( including my 6yo!) and it was one of our favorite places in our first year of traveling Europe.
I agree that it is one of the most charming areas of France and off season it is not very touristy at all.
We have lots of information and pictures about our Burgundy tour starting here:

We had an old book about the wine roads in Europe and really enjoyed using that. The food is divine.
It will look very different in March as I think the vines will all be in thier bare dormant stage.
