Basel good for christmas?France or Austria for New Years?
Hello, I think I am narrowing down our christmas trip. I think we may want to do Either Paris or Salzberg or Vienna for new years. I know that they are far from each other but where we go for new years will change where we go for christmas.
I was thinking basel for christmas and on to paris for new years. I know some people say the x-mas in switzerland is quiet and not really christmas like but I did some research and it seems like they have a lot of christmas stuff and it is close to many places for day trips.
the other thought was maybe basing near innsbruck so we can day trip to castles in germany or into salzburg etc. and then on to salzberg or vienna for new years.
Any thoughts on this would be great or any other ideas are appriciated!

Innsbruck would be my last choice, I've been there twice and would say that it has the least to offer. I've spent 2 christmases in Salzburg and Dec 31 in Vienna. I've clebrated New Year's Eve in Munich with all my siblings as part of a family reunion. If the Bavarian castles are a factor then do Salburg-Munich. We love the baroque christmas ambiance of Salzburg. If you prefer a small tiny Bavarian village christmas, google Mittenwald or Oberamergau. I've never been to Paris in December, but I'm sure that would be another great New Year's eve city.

I've spent a summer in Basel and wouldn't think of spending christmas in Basel. I had a great time spending christmas in Lucerne but because I spent it with family/relatives at home not in a hotel. I think christmas in Switzerland is more for being with the family not so much for partying out. Basel is just not cosmopolitan enough.
