My husband and I will be spending 3 nights in London before a 14 night cruise. We are looking for somewhere cheap, but preferrably not to nasty to stay. Located within close walking distance to the underground so we can do some sight seeing. We are aged in our late 30's and would prefer somewhere fairly quiet and not full of teenagers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What's your definition of cheap? Lots of people use Priceline for London for some really amazing deals.

You must define cheap. To some people on this forum a room for $500 is cheap. To others $50 is cheap. If you mean inexpensive, honestly that is hard to come by in London what with prices what they are.

Check Holiday Inn Express at Victoria Station (HI website), it's a central location and the tube is at Victoria. Also check Premier Travel Inn at County Hall (next to the Marriott and London Eye). It's very close to Waterloo Station tube.

Not sure what you mean about not being full of teenagers. We've been to London many times and have stayed in hotels as well as apartments and never encountered teens. Unless you are thinking of staying in a hostel I doubt if you will encounter large quantities of teens.

Don't worry about being swarmed w/ kids. Besides hostels the only other place you'll find a lot of young people is the Regent Palace hotel (which should be avoided at all costs - the largest hotel in London and a really nasty place)

Virtually every central London locaton can have that description attached to it. What attractions are you intending to see? Are you a shopper or you aren't bothered by good shops close at hand? Fine dining or fast food?

And yes, does "cheap" mean good value or low budget? Eitherway, you need to specify some sort of figure!

Before setting your mind on what "cheap" means to you, please take into consideration how BAD the dollar is doing. That said, consider The Victoria Inn, walking distance from Victoria Station and (even closer) Pimlico Station. Neighborhood type, a mile from Buckingham Palace (I walked it w/sister on a February day; no biggie). We paid about $90/double; clean, quiet, breakfast included.

Forgot to mention, be sure your hotel rate includes VAT -- that can come as a very nasty surprise if it is not factored in already.

Also, time of the year; hotel rates are all about location AND season....

We stayed in the Bloomsbury area. The ST Athans Hotel. It is within walking distance to the tube. It is a bath no the hall, no rrom phone, to room tv type of place. 65 pounds per night I think.

65 pounds = about $127. You can certainly do way better then the type of hotel the last poster described with Priceline. If you do not want to do Priceline (and I don't use it) then check Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn, Best Western sites. All can be accessed via websites for easy convenience. Also look into IBIS hotels (Accor Corp). They are basic (Motel 6) kinds of places but with private baths.

99% of London hotels have private bathroons, t.v., phones, etc.

We will be in London late March 07.
I am hoping to find a room for around or less than 65-70GBP a night (if possible).
I have just had a quick look at the Victoria Inn and it looks pretty good. I am about to start looking at the others that we suggested.
With the Priceline website that seems very popular, is this a US based company or from the UK? We are in Australia.
