Brussels Grand Place - how early and how late are places open?
We are arriving in Brussels late at night (after 9pm) - will there be any places around the Grand Place area that we can hang out at (restaurants, etc) that will still be open? It will be a Saturday night in January.
The next morning, we have to leave for the airport at 8am. Will there be places (like bakeries and restaurants) that will be open?
What's the sunrise time in Brussels in January? We're thinking of just walking around the Grand Place early in the morning but dont know if it will still be dark at 6am.
Thanks!

According to the historical data on www.weather.com, sunrise/sunset times in Brussels for January are more like 8:30 am / 5:00 pm.
We went back to sit in Grand Place after dinner one evening, last October. The guildhouses were illuminated, and there were cafes still open, as well as the 'warren' of restaurants just off the Place around rue des Bouchers. There are also cafes/clubs outside G.Plc. at the Place d'Espagne.
We ate breakfast in our hotel, so can't say about the bakeries..

We were in Brussels in June. If no one else can answer the questions, contact your hotel and they should be able to answer. Basically the Grand Place is a big square with a lot of shops, bars and restaurants around it. In June some of the shops closed at 6 pm. The beer halls were open late, but in January I don't know how late. Restaurants are open regular restaurant hours. You will probably find something open at the hours you want, but you may have to do some looking or get suggestions from your hotel. We stayed at the Hotel Welcome and they couldn't have been more helpful and knowlegable.

Yes, many of the cafes (probably almost all of them) in and around the Grand'Place will be open until after midnight. One of our favorites is La Chaloupe d'Or (den Gouden Boot). If you can snare a windowside table upstairs you will have a great view of the Place. Bonus: many cafes in Brussels have big fireplaces, wonderful for cold winter evenings.
As for the morning, little will be open as early as 6 am and it will most definitely be dark as night (it will still be dark around 8 am as well). Remember, you can get coffee and croissants in the airport. Don't stop at the airport cafes before you check in, especially if you're leaving from terminal B--it's a new terminal full of shops and eateries (but be prepared to do some walking to get to the gate).
