The easiest route is Antwerpen -Rotterdam -Haarlem. On that route trains leave Brugge at 57 past the hour. It takes 3 hours 37 minutes in total, with the two changes mentioned.
Slightly faster but with an extra change is Brugge- Gent- Antwerpen-Den Haag- Haarlem but as that uses the Thalys it is not really an option. The same is true if you go through Brussels and Den Haag.

Thank-you everyone for your help. We got into AMS and went to the International ticket counter and paid 40 euro each for a ticket from AMS to Brugge. We left at 7:12 am changed trains in the neat old Antwerpen Train station, then got off the train at Den Haag HS and caught the next train on the same tracks 4 minutes later. We checked into our room in Brugge at 11:30 am.Thanks again for making our enjoyable trip less stressful.
