We very much liked the De Tuilerieen. Great location and nice large rooms. Beautiful dining hall with an excellent breakfast buffet. Had AC which was needed when we were there.

Difference in classes on train are minimal or not worth it IMO for such a short trip. 1st has more room and is usually less crowded.

We stayed at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Bruges, right on Burg square. It's not "quaint", if that's what you're after, but it was extremely comfortable and a great deal on Priceline.

This is bizzare. The title when I posted my response said "Brges". Maybe the spelling gremlins fixed it (!).

In 2006 we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Aragon.

The location was good and we walked everywhere.

We were upgraded to an apartment, so I can't comment on the rooms, but everything we saw there seemed very nice and the breakfast was excellent.

We took the train from Amsterdam to Bruges, Bruges to Brussels, and back, probably second class, and it was fine.

Was the train very crowded from Bruges to Brussels? We'll be traveling with luggage and I understand there are no seat reservations for this leg. We'll change trains in Brussels for Cologne.

We did a lot of train traveling on our trip to Bruges and Amsterdam. The only time I remember any crowds at all was coming back to Bruges from Ghent when a crowd of high school students got on.

They were so friendly and cute in their school uniforms, and got off the train at all the little towns on the route.

Other than that, there were no crowd problems.

The only times we had our luggage were from Amsterdam to Bruges and from Burges back to Amsterdam, and we put the bags on the racks or between the seats.

Just booked a hotel in Bruge a couple weeks ago for Sept. Chose the hotel "Prinsenhof" , nice, european ambience.

Our stay was at NH Bruges which is a short walk from central Bruges and thus quiet. It has an old world charm, was I think a monastery. Eating places? Hard to pick one over another...De Hanze, t' Pallierterke, De Zanloper, t' Schrijverke, Malpeitus (in cellar where resistance met)

We just got back, and found that the trains can be crowded. We had large bags, and on certain legs had trouble, had to stand. There was a festival going on, and lots of people taking trains. Some other legs of train journeys in 2nd class were fine.

We stayed at a very lovely B&B, Huyze Hertsberge and preferred it to a hotel. Caroline the owner also has Cote Canal next door (everything is in the same buildings, but you use different staircases for the rooms). Location was great, the suite we had was really big (suite Charpente) and the price was reasonable.

I'd not hesitate to stay there again, although we were very hesitant before arrival (didn't know what to expect with a B&B)

As for the train, we were in 1st class coming back from Bruges to Paris during rush hour and it was well worth the few extra Euros we paid. The train was very crowded!

We had a nearly empty car from Bruges-Brussels (in March, imagine there might be more crowds in Sept). Those trains run every half-hour, though...shouldn't be a major problem.

I think the most beautiful hotel in Bruges is The Pand Hotel. At least they have been choosen as the Best Charming hotel in Europe, and are in the top 101 hotels in the world of the Tatle Trael Guide.
