The best egg I ever had was in Belgium. I fear it may have forever ruined me.

I want to know why as well.

The OP is the same person that has been trying to use Fodors as their personal travel agent.

>>it is due to special food/diet restrictions<<

But fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, tuna, and shelf stable meals are all available in Europe.

That doesn't make sense. Fresh fruit is fresh fruit. An orange in Europe is no different than an orange in the US (ditto other fruits). Canned tuna is canned tuna although you do find more olive oil packed tuna in Europe. Eggs are eggs except bringing eggs already cooked would require refrigeration (shouldn't be left out more than 2 hours) and would stink.

The answer for fruits and veggies is no, regardless of your dietary issues.

But there was a traveler who posted last month who's on a raw diet and the answers there may help.

This is, however, mere stupidity:

<<However, we have better things to do with our money than waste it on silly little dogs sniffing us in case we're carrying an orange, or pay armed police to interrogate us about whether chocolates contain milk powder. We leave that kind of Government bullying to "freedom loving" Americans.>>

The little dogs are not primarily sniffing for food - although they will pick that up - they are primarily sniffing for drugs. If that isn't obvious you live in a different world.

If you are doing this for pareve, halal, etc, reasons, it would be more productive to find sources of such food at each destination.

The hard cooked eggs in Germany sit out at room temperature for days and nobody I know that eats them has died yet.

Welcome to a different world.

They're not primarily sniffing for drugs. The canines are seeking foodstuffs and drugs and other illicit cargo.

The US is protecting its agrarian interests, just as Europe does and as Australia does (Aussie Customs had half a mind to lock me up after I copped to not eating an orange on the plane and having it in my bag - it was pre-9/11 so they just fussed at me). This should neither shock, enrage nor lead to ramblings of unfeigned pomposity coupled with bogus outrage on the part of any person who has traveled internationally.

No typically you can't take fresh fruits & vegetables, eggs, fresh meat, etc. between countries.

Cans of tuna and shelf stable meals would be OK.

The link worked for me. It was a fluff piece about a dog whose job is to sniff for food stuffs on flights incoming to the U.S.

It was a story in USA Today interviewing the agriculture specialist canine handler of one of the food sniffing dogs at JFK. I cited it just to point out that the dogs are there for the food, not primarily the drugs as was stated elsewhere on this thread.

There are dogs who sniff for drugs, there are dogs who sniff for food and there are dogs who sniff for large amounts of cash. There are also dogs who sniff for explosives.
