Bordeaux to Barcelona by car - what to see along the way?
Driving from Bordeaux to Barclona - slowly, to see and experience places. More to see than just A to B surely...? Any suggestions. Overnights in small towns with good food! I know the distance can be done in a few hours, but the journey more important than getting there...4 Australian teenagers in tow who have only seen London and Paris up till then. We will have taken Eurostar from London then TGV to Bordeaux region to stay with rural friends before collecting car for some independent travel to Barcelona..

Lots to see in the Pyrenees. Scenery such as the Cirque de Gavarnie, driving over the Col du Tourmalet. St. Bertrand de Comminges had a church worth seeing. On the Spanish side, the Romanesque churches of Taüll should be visited for their frescoes, even if the originals are in Barcelona. The Gers has some nice small towns to be seen. Or, if you are willing to stay west for a while, you could go via Basque country. You might want to read my trip report that starts with Bordeaux and includes Aquitaine (the Landes and Basque country); click on my name to find it.

I hope you're not renting a car in France and dropping it off in France. That will cost you a small fortune.
I agree you should plan to go through the Pyrenées. The coastal route is pretty much a bore (to me) until you get to Biarritz...and then you have to scoot across Spain to Barcelona.
