Booking Venice Hotels

While I'm finding recommendations for hotels in Venice here and there, many don't have direct e-mail addresses or web sites.
Are there trusted sites to book for you?
How about secretplaces.com? Anyone know of Hotel Flora or Hotel Novecento? We're looking for an intimate, reasonably priced place to stay (Pensione accademia is booked!) How did you book them? Thanks all!

It's been a few years, but we loved the FLora. I kow several others who have stayed there since and have also been pleased. I booked directly with the hotel, mostly via email (I did fax my credit card info). Their email is [email protected], and website www.hotelflora.it

If you search this board for hotel flora (and probably the other hotel you mention), you'll find lots of comments. ALso check tripadvisor.com.

I have posted many times about Novecento on this board..even one today. Put "novecento" in the search box (with the " &quotand you'll find all mentions of it.

With a handful of exceptions, even simple hotels that are still without email have fax machines.

I too am a fan of the Flora, but rooms vary in size. Outstanding location.

The worldby sites are excellent. For Venice, www.veniceby.com. This is not a travel agency but an accomodation listing that puts you in direct contact with the hotel (or B&B, apt, etc). When you e-mail an inquiry you are answered directly from the property. I have found the property descriptions and photos absolutely accurate. I've booked via veniceby.com, parisby.com and florenceby.com and can highly reccomend all.

Hotel Flora is owned by the parents of the grown children that own Novecento. I've heard good things about it.
