Booking train tickets!! Help

Looking for some help with booking tickets on trenitalia web site, as I am not having any success. We are wanting to travel from Milan to Venice on July 10 on an inter-city train departing at 16.05 in first class. I don't seem to be able to book these tickets and seats. An error message is appearing in italian and of course I don't understand what it says. Hoping someone out there can help me. Thanks in advance.

Quite honestly, if this is on an IC and not on a Eurostar and you are going to be in Italy prior to departure (I know, big "if&quot I'm not sure why you are insistent on booking this that far ahead.

As we are arriving in Milan on that day from Nice we would like to have this booking arranged ahead of time. We only arrive in Milan at 3pm and the train we wish to book on leaves at 4.05

Can you tell if the error message concerns the method available to you for collecting the tickets?

If you can't get the tickets now, don't fret too much about it.

You might consider booking them at the Nice station before boarding. Or, just get a 2nd-class ticket there and get on. Or, if you have to, catch the next train to Venice, which should be less than an hour later.

Hi emylou,

I tried it just now, up to the point of buying.

www.trenitalia.com in English seems to be working now.

Hi, I'm back again. Tried to buy tickets and the problem does seem to be with the delivery method (or at least that is what the message looks like). I have been selecting the ticketless option. Any suggestions?

The message is in italian but it does refer to ticketless and from what I can work out it is saying that method is not available. Hope I don't sound like a complete idiot!!!!

This is what the message is:
La scelta ticketless e abbinabile esclusiva mente alla tipologia Posto a sedere con prenotazione.
Thanks

Hi emylou,

You are trying to buy a ticket online without a reservation. It won't let you.

Pay the 3E for the reservation.

Thanks for that info. I take it that I have been making the wrong selection. Should I select Mandantory reservation instead of seats as I was doing. I can't see where else the reservation charge comes into play. I really appreciate your information.

this is for Intrepid1:

my friend and I are traveling from Nice to Milan, and then also the same trip: Milan to Venice in July...we are looking for the cheapest tickets. Should we try and book now, or do you think booking at the station would be cheaper and easier?

i appreciate your time!

Hi rec,

Purchasing online is exactly the same price as purchasing in Europe.

The difference is that you might get discounted tickets for your Nice to Milan trip at www.sncf.com.
