Booking Engines You trust?

For my upcoming summer trip to Italy, I already have secured my lodging for Sorrento. Today, I have the opportunity to rebook that same hotel/stay through Tripadvisor via GETAROOM for $200 cheaper (total savings over 4 nights)

I am skeptical and have not read good things about GETAROOM. Barring a good number of responses expressing confidence in GETAROOM, I am inclined to stay put and not risk a booking disaster, especially given the stakes we're talking about here.

So, any counsel here?

I've only used ones that are real wellknown, so can't help you on that one. I think I've only used Expedia and booking.com and Orbitz, actually, for hotels except for the hotel's own website or the website of their owner (if a group or chain). I've never had trouble with those mainstream ones.

I would be skeptical as I'd think if this hotel offers discounts on some websites, it would be available on one other than Getaroom, also. I mean perhaps on Getaroom but not exclusively.

Where are you reading all these negative things about them, though? I only see one or two obvious complaints and they aren't that bad, just by googling. I would hope Tripadvisor wouldn't have someone on their website if they got a lot of complaints.

Ask your original booker for a price match.

I would call the hotel directly and tell them of the Getaroom offer and see if they will match it. Likely they will.

Like Blueeyedcod, I've used booking.com and venere.com for years without difficulty.

tripadvisor and booking work for me, but, if I have a bit of time I always start with google maps to see what is available in the area. I often find loads of B&Bs in the area which are not on most of the main engines and some are real beauties which you can book direct at prices you cannot believe. Comments do exist, often in google.
