The name of the B&B is Antica Residenza d'Azeglio. Just click on the link in my e-mail above for the website.

Bologna is a great place for 4 days and easy to take day trips from. The Italian Days tour is a must and so much fun. The tourist office walking tours are a great orientation. I was living there for 6 months and never got bored, so much to see and do and easy train access. Have fun!!

Well, we are back from Italy and Bologna was really the highlight. It was such a respite from the intensely visited Rome - so much to do, so much to taste!! If you enjoy food it is particularly wonderful. We took the Italian Food Days tour that was recommended by many Fodoroites - especially Low Country Islander - and it was the highlight of our visit. Here is the facebook page for the very engaging "host" of the tour, Allesandro. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Italia...e/172459883328
We also devoted a day to a cooking experience with a woman named Carmelita - here is her blog for more information. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cookitaly/sets/ Doing the morning marketing with her was a revelation.
We stayed at an apartment in Bologna that was about a 15 minute walk into town. The owner is Graziella and here is her information. [email protected] It was a very nice place to stay - clean, a wonderful kitchen, and helpfully included a washer (with clothes line) and a hair dryer! A bonus in the middle of a European trip. It would comfortably fit 6 people or more, but was spacious for a family of 3. The only hitch - and it is an Italian reality - is that when you use too many appliances (like 3 including the air conditioner) you will blow the fuses.
All in all, I think that less than 4 days in Bologna would be too short.

LizTD - thanks for your report back about Bologna. Yes we enjoy food! so will be looking forward to all things food.
We are doing the Italian Food Days tour so glad you liked it.

Was originally thinking of a cooking school but DH does not cook (loves food though) so not sure now. Had hoped to maybe do a day train trip to Ravenna.

Bologna for 4 days I'm excited! Glad you had a great time.

Aussie, yes, definitely do the Ravenna trip!, not just think about it. It is a short trip by train and Ravenna is a pleasant town to walk around in. Mosaics may not sound exciting but these are.

Liz, thanks for those interesting links. And I agree about Rome, have sadly decided not to go again.

Four nights in Bologna is not too long, especially with one or more days devoted to Parma, Modena, Ravenna, food tour, etc.

Antica Residenza d'Azeglio is terrific and highly recommended. Augostino and Roberto are enthusiastic and charming hosts.

The mosaics of Ravenna are spectacular! If you have been to Santa Maria in Trastevere, you have seen just a hint of the magnificence of Ravenna.

Was thinking of doing a walking tour through the Tourist Information centre also.
