Bob's Venice photo gallery is up
It was not easy to edit down to 48 images from over 400, but here is the first week of our recent 3 week trip. I hope you enjoy. The Dolomites and Lake Como will follow later.

I so enjoyed your beautiful and interesting pictures, Bob. They sure make me miss Venice however. That little toddler is adorable and oh yes, the gondolier is quite handsome! Did you get the chance to notice if the male gondoliers talked at all to the female trainee gondolier? I had heard a woman had been accepted and wondered if she would get the cold shoulder or not.
Thank you for sharing and I sure look forward to your next group of pictures!

We did not ride any gondolas this trip--we had before and they are quite expensive. I thin thta many of the rides are part of tour packages. We would have as many as 20 gondolas with Japanese passengers in a row beneath our balcony.
LoveItaly---She was manning a traghetto only with one male helper--hard to tell acceptance--what is your guess?

Loved the caption "Junior League Sustainers of San Polo".
We took a gondola ride for our 25th a few years back - pricey, and worth it once, we thought, the best part was getting one who took us in and out of the smaller canals.

Hello Bob, my guess would be the majority of the gondoliers are not over enthused..I sort of heard that from a friend in Veneto too but I am sure there are exceptions. Btw, I noticed when in Venice the last time that the majority of the passengers in gondolas were Japenese so think you are correct that the gondola ride is part of a tour group package. I hadn't thought about that. And like socaltraveler I loved the picture of the San Polo ladies!

Hi, Bob. We're enjoying all your photos. We took a similar trip in May 2006: the lakes, Dolomites, Venice.
Margie also liked to take pictures of laundry on the line. But hers were in Venice, not Burano, so they're less colorful.

What made you think that the area round San Giacomo dall'Orio was a Turkish area, Bob? I'm not saying it's not a Turkish area, just that I haven't heard of any parts of Venice being favoured by people from one particular country, apart from the Ghetto, of course.

Hi; Great pictures. I especially like the size of the pictures on Slow Travel site. Someday my sister will help me load my pictures on Fodors. Would love to get back to Venice. I think Venice and Croatia would make a good trip. Great job. Richard
