Bike Trip & Camping in the Ring of Kerry

Greetings,

I'm in the initial stages of planning a bike trip near Dingle and the Ring of Kerry in early June. I have never done a bike trip before, so I would appreciate any advice people have about how to plan for one. For me, the biking is less about the exercise and more of a way to see the countryside. Does anyone recommend a bike company to work through? Also, I'm interested in camping in Co. Kerry, so I would appreciate any advice people have about campsites.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions. I've been following the message boards and there are many helpful tips being exchanged here.

Take care,
restlessfeet

Hi restlessfeet, We did the ROK in a motorhome last May so found some very nice campsites.
Heres my trip report with photos so you can see what the campsites look like: http://tinyurl.com/mmm492

Next I suggest you go to the Irish Tourist Board online and get a map of the campsites.

I'm curious about the idea of rain. We love bike trips for the same reasons you do, and we have done a couple (France, Vietnam, & Germany) but never in Ireland. We are contemplating 2nd half of May for a visit to Iteland, and I've been reading trip reports from that time frams. Lots and lots of comments about the rain. We are rethinking the biking trip idea because biking continuously in the rain does not do a lot for me.

Not only rain, drizzle, cloudy skies and mist(fog) but quite strong winds near the seashore. As ROK and Dingle Peninsula are both jutting out into the sea there is little protection from the gusts. I remember watching a young couple bravely trying to erect a very small 'bubble' of a tent in Galway during a strong sea breeze and driving rain. I've never been so glad of a proper roof over my head! Then again, they were young, robust and only interested in the experience of it all..........

Thank you for the responses. Has anyone booked a bike company in the past that you would recommend (or not)?
