Connemara and The Burren

Considering a walking trip the end of June. How's the weather then? Are these areas pretty? This is a very small women only group. They've done this route before. Any advice or info would be appreciated.

Easy, June is beautiful, but still has a bit of rain. Both areas are desert-like and unlike the rest of Ireland. So not really "pretty" so much as unique. The Ring of Kerry and Cliffs of Moher are "pretty". But you won't be disappointed either way.

If the group has done this route before they must know whether it is "pretty" or not. Pretty is also a matter of opinion. The Burren is very barren and rocky. A lot of Connemara is the same but quite photogenic with moody mountains, wonderful beaches and places where you can get away from it all. Do a Google search for images of both places and you can see what it is like.

A lot of Connemara is very flat and very open. It has a fair bit of rain. It will be a nice walking holiday if you get good weather and horrible if you get wind and heavy rain.

NativeNewYorker, we loved the Burren in July 2006 and thought it was unique and magical. Yes it is a barren landscape but when you look up close there are plants growing in the cracks...fascinating especially if you research it a bit and stop in the visitor's center first. There should be even more flowers in June. Our favorite section of the Burren was the part near the sea...standing on the Burren, walking around, and being able to see the sea at the same time. It's part of my long trip report if you click on my name.

Drove through Connemara on our way to Westport and got just a tantalizing glimpse. No time to stop...next time!

Global warming seems to change the weather everywhere we travel now. During our 2 weeks in July 2006 we were prepared for rain, but had only 2 wet days. Also there was an Irish heat wave while we were there...and we had a car with no A/C!

Love Ireland. Gorgeous and friendly. Lots of wide-open spaces.
