The problem I have with getting the worst room in the hotel is that it is generally not representative of the standard one would expect for that hotel or others in that category. Certainly, the hotel's own website or the pictures on the discount website, does not give the impression that they have, what in some cases could be classed, as substandard rooms -within their category.
For example, in one case I booked a 4 star hotel and the room I was given was barely 2 star. For the rate I paid, I could have found a far superior 3 star hotel.
The lesson I learnt is that you get what you pay for, so I won't do THAT again

I have used internet booking sites and (so far) I have not had a problem, however I never book "blind". After accessing sites like hotels.com or quikbook, I look at the hotels offered, check a map, check the hotel's own website for rates and amenities, then look at trip advisor for reviews. If the price and location are what I want, I book. Then I call or e-mail the hotel direcly to confirm.
