we will have a car and are staying in beune. wanted to stop in dijon on our way back to paris that day. stop for a couple hours in dijon. is it a to-die-for drive to dijon or a train is ok ?

Train is fine but what is your question - you want to leave your car in Beaune and take the train to Dijon then Paris or want to keep your car after Dijon - in which case I would drive to Dijon, park it there - look around this interesting town and motor on.

Are you planning to return your car in Beaune - that would make sense if wanting to get to Paris straight away after Dijon - save a day on a car rental and take the frequent regional trains to Dijon - put bags in station locker and then go onto Paris.

But if your question is should you drive to Dijon or not - well the train goes the same way and no hassle with car in Dijon - every French city of that size I've been in is a hassle to drive into, especially if not familiar with parkings, etc.

thank you- we were taking the train to paris from dijon and really wanted to know if the drive from beaune to dijon is worth the extra car time or we won't miss anything great if we take the train instead of drive. so, i think you are saying just drop the car beaune and train it to dijon?

Take the train and save on the car rental.

I would drive and stop at some of the vineyards on the way. Vosne Romanee, Gevrey Chambertin. If you are not at all interested in wine (or have visited too many chateaux already), then take the train.

If you have a car already it is only an hour drive to Dijon and easy to drop the car at the rail station to spend the rest if the day there then take the train to Paris...but where will you put your luggage? The drive along the wine road is nicer than the bigger highway and runs pretty much parallel.

Based on your posts you seem to still be planning both regions in four days. I think you may be underestimating travel time...I would still pick one region. They are equally nice and to be honest I think 4 days in one region would be more rewarding than trying to cram them both in given the amount of travel time required....

I think you are right. however, chances are we may never be back this way again. so, we each want to see something different and it has been difficult to satisfy both. we are trying to get 5 days to do this and maybe even 5 1/2 but nothing is perfect. thanks for your input. you have been extremely helpful.
