Between Stuttgart and Rvia del Garda - stopover along train route
Thanks to all who answered previous questions about our April itinerary. We are going from Stuttgart to Riva del Garda, so will take the train to Rovereto and then bus to Riva. To break up the long train journey, want to stop off overnight along the route - considering Kufstein or Bressanone/Brixen. If we take early train from Stuttgart we can get to either one of these with enough time to spend a few afternoon hours exploring the town and then take the train to Rovereto the next day.
Any suggestions as to which of these would make for a pleasant afternoon in April, or any other suggestions along this train route?

I stayed at Hotel Jarolim in Bressanone. Cute town in the mountains. I had a back corner room with a beautiful view of the mountains. It is located directly across the street from the train station. Very clean-nice breakfast-English spoken

Hi OTC - I can't compare with Kufstein, but Bressanone is certainly a pleasant choice.

Or ... you could catch a bus from there up to nearby Castelrotto.
An alternative would be Bolzano ... if you want to see 'Oetzi' the Iceman.
Hope this helps ...

Thanks, Steve and scatcat. Both places look great from the internet research I've done, so it was hard to make a choice. But I am choosing Kufstein as a stopover as we can get there earlier in the day, so have more time to spend.

Hi gradyghost: we're spending a few days in Stuttgart at the beginning of our April trip - to see the Mercedes and (new) Porsche museum, and tour the Porsche factory. Then heading to Riva del Garda for 3 nights, stopping off one night in Kufstein to break up the train trip, and then to Bologna.
Hopefully this trip will not get postponed due to health problems!

If you're staying in Kufstein I can highly recommend the Auracher Lochl, both the hotel and the restaurant. My Kufstein pix are at kwilhelm.smugmug.com/Travel/419378, TR including Kufstein at http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35096856. But Castlerotto is a good stop too, and the museum in Bolzano shouldn't be missed.

Hello OTC:
Please let us know your impressions of the new Porsche Museum. If you're in the mood for a nice 2 hour lunch in two of your cities, consider the following:
Stuttgart --Hotel Am Schlossgarten, the Terrace if warm enough; right across from the Hbf
Bologna-- Grand Hotel Baglioni, Via Indipendenza in the Centre
Good luck. Gradyghost

Thanks for the lunch recommendations. I'll post about the new Porsche museum when we get back. Meanwhile, I hope we are able to arrange a tour of the factory. The person who sets up the factory tours emailed that they're inundated with requests - and haven't done any factory tour scheduling - because they've been busy with the opening of the new museum. Hopefully the day that we want to go on the tour will be available once they get back to scheduling tours. My husband will be really disappointed if we can't tour the factory.
