Best way to get to Volterra from Florence

Is there any public transportation that we can take from Florence to Volterra? Thinking of doing a day trip and we have not rented a car. Are there any buses or trains that will get us there or close enough to taxi?

Hi norahe,

There is train service between Florence and Volterra-Saline-Pomarance. Is this your Volterra?

See www.trenitalia.com/en

Here's how to do it:

Lv Florence 8:40 "TRA-IN" bus lines (don't think it's a train)
Ar Colle Val d'Elsa 9:45
Lv Colle Val d'Elsa 9:45 "CPT Pisa" bus lines
Ar Volterra 10:35

Service Monday through Saturday only

Return CPT buses from Volterra to Colle Val d'Elsa depart at 13:15 and 17:20

You'll find the schedules between Florence and Colle Val d'Elsa at
www.sita-on-line.it

You'll find the schedules between Colle Val d'Elsa and Volterra (Line 770) at
www.cpt.pisa.it

Thank you all!!! I think we're going with the bus route...seems quicker than the train. These responses were very helpful.

The one-way bus fare from Florence to Volterra is Euro 6.95, with a bus change (also a bus operator change) in Colle Val d'Elsa.

You might want to know that the upper town of Colle is quite charming and worth a look.

Volterra is beautiful. We were there by accident last may and had a beautiful day there wandering around and a long lazy lunch. It is worth a visit!
