Best way to get to our hotel at MXP from central Milan
We're overnighting at Villa Malpensa, near the airport, before our flight home. Will probably take the train from Bologna to Milan and spend a few hours in Milan before we go to our hotel. What would be the best way to get there? Would a taxi be astronomical?

You can take the airport bus from the Milan train station to the airport and then get a taxi at the airport to your hotel.
It will surely cost a lot less than a taxi from the city center to your airport hotel.

panecott is right.
The 85 is a fixed fare from any street in Milan city to Malpensa Airport. Your hotel is NEAR the Airport, but not inside. Probably it is enough to increase the fixed fare. So the 85 can be easily 100 or more...

Agree with aboce poster; take the bus from Milano Centrale to airport. Most hotels near airport have a shuttle. Ask the hotel to come and get you or haul a taxi. Bus to airport is 8 Euro/pp and taxi maybe 2 Euro?

I would say 85 euros is astronomial enough. The shuttle bus to the airport, then taxi to hotel sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the link, LoveItaly. (LoveItaly, did you ever tell your son-on-law about the Concorso Italiano in Monterey?)

Hi orangetravelcat, I sure did but he and my daughter were never able to attend. He does get down to Monterey for business conferances but never at the right time. Thanks for the reminder..I should Google and see when it is this year, assuming it is an annual event.
BTW, the shuttle bus is reliable and very clean and modern. Have a lovely time in Italy..and enjoy Bologna and Milan..and I love those two cities!

Per the Villa Malpensas website . . . .
HOTEL PROVIDES FREE TRANSPORTATION FROM AND TO MILANO MALPENSA AIRPORT, TERMINAL 1 OR TERMINAL 2 ONLY between 6:00 am and 11:00 and ONLY between 5:00 pm and 10:00 pm with departures every 15 min. If you do arrive during these hours, please ring the hotel and tell us the door number where you are waiting. For the rest of the day, you need to take a taxi.
- I would email the hotel to confirm the above information posted on http://www.hotelvillamalpensa.it is still valid, and to confirm the phone no. on which to call the hotel (again, per website = +39 0331 230944)

JBX, I looked at the Villa Malpensa's website a little while ago and saw the same info, but thanks for taking the time to check it out for me. I will email them to make sure the info is accurate, and try and plan accordingly.

So, my wife and I are contemplating a stay at the Villa Malpensa for the very same reason. How did it work out for you ?
What rate were you able to get for the room and where did you get it? Best I've found is about 170 Euros which seems a bit steep for what it looks like. But then again, if it makes the issue of transportation to MXP easy then perhaps it's worth it.
Your thoughts ?

I got a rate of 190 euros which I don't think is that bad since a big trade show is going on when we need the hotel and there were no hotels available. We are staying there on Apr 22, so will report back after our trip on how the transportation works out.
