Best way to get from Venice Airport to St. Mark's
We are arriving in Venice on Easter Sunday morning (March 27), and were wondering about the preferred means of transportation to our hotel near St. Mark's Square. I know we have the private water taxi option, but that is a bit pricey. Do you fodorites recommend the Bus ACTV / ATVO - Alilaguna water taxi, Vaporetto, or perhaps a nice swim to wake up after flying all night?
Are we likely to find a lot of Venice shut down on Easter Sunday morning?
Thanks for everyone's input.

Cannot tell you about Easter but was there on Christmas Day and found enough places open to have a wonderful day. I agree with the other poster about the Alilaguna. No need to pay the fee for a water taxi...which may be faster, but you really don't want to hurry the entrance you make. It's too beautiful to rush. Have a blessed time there. Hope you have as good a time as my daughters and I did!

I'll be on Alilaguna shortly to San Marco-it takes 70 min., stops at Murano, Lido, San Zaccaria and finally San Marco. I'm trying to catch one of the morning runs for arrival into San Marco noonish/early afternoon. It costs 10E without the Venice Card, 5 E with.
Go to www.alllaguna.it-and input airport and San Marco, and you'll get the timetable.

This is the method I found very easy, and it's definitely the cheapest.
When you land at the airport, buy a 72-hour pass (it's easy to see where). Then walk out of the airport to the area where you get the buses to Piazzale Roma in Venice (I think they are orange ACTV buses). When you get to Piazzale Roma, take the #1 or #82 vaporetto to the appropriate stop.
The pass will cost 22.50 Euros, and you can use it for the rest of your trip.
Here's the ACTV web site:

We used the Alilaguna on our recent trip. The 10 Euro tickets are available in the arrivals hall from where you can get a free shuttle bus (or 10 minute walk) to catch the boat. There are 2 routes, red and blue, both go to San Marco giving a service every 30 minutes. It took about 70 minutes. Luggage is no problem, your case is put on racks at the front of the boat, according to destination and is in full view, so is perfectly safe.
