Definitely Virgin Express - the only low-fare airline to fly that route.

I have used Virgin to go to Amsterdam: I flew from Rome to Bruxelles, overnight there and then took the direct train to Amsterdam. Same thing for the way back. Virgin unfortunately is not always in time with its flights arrivals and departures, at least this is what happened to me on both flights. But the fare I had got with Virgin some years ago was about 300.000 liras (now 150 euros) compared with the much more expensive fares with Alitalia and KLM. Try also Bruxelles Airlines (I think this is the name of the former Sabena...but I am not sure). They fly in code-share.

Batuffolina,
Virgin now also flies directly from Rome to AMSTERDAM, in addition to its flights to Brussels.
I assume that KatWoman is flying one way only, so KLM/Alitalia would be much more expensive (even if she buys the cheapest roundtrip fare and throws out the return portion).
I'm not aware of Virgin Express having a particularly bad punctuality record - but have never flown them myself.
