Best Way To Fly to Southwest France/Then to Spain
We are planning a 3 to 4 week trip to Southwest France and then to Spain for Sept 2008. We want to see the Dordogne region of France and then Barcelona, maybe Madrid and then at least ten days in southern Spain (Seville, Cordova, Malaga etc) We are confused about where we should fly into-Barcelona, Madrid Or Toulouse. We realize that we would have to take the train or fly between thes areas. For anyone with experience --what would work the best and be financially the right decision.

If you want to see the Dordogne first, Bordeaux, Limoges or Toulouse would the the airport of arrival, and then you will have to rent a car. Last year we did find a RT to London and Ryanair between countries to be the cheapest option, but that was because we planned to visit friends in Cambridge. For trans-Atlantic flights, choosing a RT to London usually means staying overnight in the London area on the return trip, which might negate any savings when you include hotel stay and local transportation.
I would look for an open jaw ticket returning from Madrid or Barcelona and visit that city at the end of the trip.

Thanks Michael. We do want to see the Dordogne first but then it seems so complicated to get to the places we want to see in Spain. My husband also thought that maybe we would need to visit Madrid or Barcelona last and return home from there. We just want to do it the smartest and most economical way possible.

Look of a cheap flight from Bordeaux or Toulouse to Spain (http://www.flylc.com/directall-en.asp) and return your car there on your way to Spain.
