Best way to fly from Urbino, Le Marche to NY

Hellow Fodorites...geting ready to book our flights for next June to Le Marche. We are still debating if we will try to go from Rome to Ascoli Pena and then to Urbino with about 7 days to spend give or take. Can you tell me what the closest airport would be to get back to NY from Urbino? Does it makes sense to go all the way back to Rome?

Thanks so much.

Why would you book this far in advance? I assume it is 2014 you are talking about.

Prices won't be good, and schedules are sure to change, making you anxious, perhaps realistically, because your connections may well get all messed up.

Plus, you don't really even know here you need to go. Figure that out first, then think about when, then think about when to buy tickets.

Ancona (AOI) is probably the closest airport if you're flying United/Lufthansa. Bologna (BLQ) may also work.

You're probably best off going back to FCO or up to MXP the day before, though.

Thank you. Im planning to book next month because I'm using mileage and you have to book that almost a year out. Jaimikins we are also planning to stay at la tavola marche. It sounds wonderful. Thanks very much.

You will love it - tell Ashley and Jason that Jamie and Scott say hi! We will be there in two weeks and again in Sept with my parents - cannot wait!

Hi, Mikster and others,
We are doing the same thing....
Anyone have any suggestions for a town to spend a day or two en route to Urbino. Right now we plan to fly to Rome, train to????, and then drive to Urbino.

We'll return to Rome for the flight back home.

What about somewhere in Umbria like Perugia or Assisi?

Consider taking a train to Arezzo if you haven't been before. It has some cultural ties with Urbino, and along the way there are lovely small towns where you could stop for lunch, in particular Sant'Angelo in Vado. The road is somewhat demanding, so if you don't like that sort of thing, you might find driving from Perugia a tad easier, but in that case, I think a bus from from Rome might be faster.
