Best way from Florence to Rome to Venice

I am headed to Italy next month and need to know the best way to go from Florence to Rome and then Rome to Venice. Train? Fly? Both?

Thanks,

Andrew

If you have a few days between each city, then a car. Otherwise there is no doubt in my opinion -- train!

Andrew,

We took the train and loved it! (It's a different experience than flying; which I happen to hate). I don't know how much time you would save by flying and I THINK it would be cheaper by train. Have you checked the difference in price?

I have not checked prices yet. How long is the train ride from Florence to Rome and Rome to Venice? Do I need to book ahead or can I get my ticket when I am there? Any idea on ticket prices? We will be spending 3-5 days in each city. Thanks

You don't save time by flying at these distances, you LOSE time.

The schedules and prices are at www.trenitalia.it; the only time you would need to buy a ticket in advance would be around august. To be on the safe side buy your ticket for the next leg at arrival in the respective city, as you are at the train station anyway.
