Best UK travel insurance company

Hello mates,

Looking for some affordable yet reliable travel insurance for a trip to Thailand, was going to go with insureandgo but it seems to have some mediocre reviews (http://www.insurersreviewed.co.uk/travel-insurance/) - Any suggestions? Should I just go with the good old post office?

Thanks

Post Office insurance is excellent, and they pay out quickly without fuss if you have to make a claim. I've used them for years, and have had to claim 4 times. Never a problem.

My daughter spent 3+ months in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and at that time the Post Office couldn't cover the duration of her time away, but American Express tailor-made a policy to suit. I don't have an Amex card, but it didn't matter and wasn't any more expensive. We did have to make a claim because some of her stuff was stolen from the hostel in Vientiane. They did pay up, but it took a lot longer than the good old PO.

I'd still recommend the Post Office to anyone. Though in fact, they are the broker, the insurance company the PO use is Ageas, who are great to deal with in an emergency.

"Martin's is the best place to start for a whole bunch of subjects" Not really. That's how he likes to portray it and it is good marketing, but the links he gives are to those who pay him for the privilege, so not impartial.

The Post Office is expensive for what it is and you need to be careful of the levels of cover that you can get in return for your premium. The cheapest way if you travel regularly is to buy an annual travel policy, my own covers the two of us for world-wide travel for about £120 per annum. Ask an insurance broker near you, unless you are can do it yourself and you are confident in reading small print to check on the cover you get.

You can check out the MoneySuperMarket travel insurance. It is also a relatively affordable insurance company and best in the UK. You can check here about it: http://www.moneysupermarket.com/

We used http://www.worldwideinsure.com/contact.htm for many years (annual policies). They paid out without any hassle when we had to make claims, had good customer service with a UK-based call centre and were reasonably priced. We've moved elsewhere more recently due to a price increase on the annual policy, but still worth a look.

Bilbo, this from his website:

"Companies cannot pay to appear on the site. Guides are written purely from a 'what's the best way to save money?' stance. Once the guides are finished, it's one of the team's job to see if they can find 'affiliate links' to the top products.

These look and work in the same way as normal links, but if someone clicks through, the link is tracked and may generate a payment to the site. The details vary - sometimes the payment's per click, per user, per application, per accepted application or any combination.

Certain links in the forum posted by users (registered users can switch this on) have a software called "Skimlinks" added. This simply tracks the link to MSE. These look and work in the same way as normal links. If someone clicks through, the link is tracked and it may generate a payment to the site"

In other words, they find a good deal then ask the provider for a payment before they'll link onsite. It's now owned by the Daily Express Group btw, since Lewis sold out.

....oh and Mellissa, the website you quote is exactly the same as it too is owned by the Express Group. They are a broker not an insurance company.
