What it the best time to travel to Turkey? When are the airfares the lowest? I never use a tour group for European travel but may consider it post 9/11. Any suggestions for one. I'd like to spend a week to 10 days there. Thanks

I was there in August of 2001. I had a wonderful time. I did all of the planning while I was in Turkey except for the hotels. But you would be able to make reservations while in the country.<BR><BR>Traveling on you own (without a tour group) gives you the option to go, see, and do what you want, when you want. The Turkish people have got to be the nicest people. You will be able to find assistance for whatever you would want to do. <BR><BR>When I traveled last year, I started in Turkey, then on to Italy (Rome, Florence, Siene, Venice, Milan, and places in between), then to Paris, and finally London. Turkey was the safest of all. I was in Turkey for 8 days. I wish it would have been longer. That was not enough time.

How about Thanksgiving?

We were there for most of May and the weather was perfect. We also hit some incredible bargains for "pre-season" hotel prices. Some of those same places are actually closed by November and remain closed much of the winter. (I'm speaking of along the south coast mainly). I had thought I'd need a tour group for the first time, thinking Turkey would be a little more "third world" than most of Europe. Was I ever wrong! After being talked into going independently, I found Turkey to be one of the easiest and friendliest countries to travel in.

We have gone in early June, late June and November for Thanksgiving. All were find, but November was the best. There were few tourists and the weather was cool,not cold. Good prices for air and accommmodations.

I think the best time is Spring and Autumn since it is less hot than in Summer and there are less tourists. It also depends on what you want to do and the areas you want to visit. For instance avoid Winter if you go to the East <BR><BR>Regarding tours it can be an option. However travelling on your own in Turkey in pretty easy and is safe. I was wondering how Istanbul is during the last two weeks of October? I checked weatherunderground.com which has given me a general idea about temps. Can anybody give me additonal information? I believe that October 29th is a major holiday in Turkey.
