Best time of year in Italy

Just looking for opinions...

we are beginning to plan a trip to Italy and looking for the best time of year to go. When it's not to0 hot, but not too cold...things are blooming or changing colors.

Is it different in different parts of the country? I live in louisiana; so when it is hot in NO, I am almost certain it is still hot in Shreveport.

initially we thought we'd go mid-late march--early april ish, but that's not set in stone...

thanks in advance for your input!

Our preference is mid-Sept to end of October. That is the driest time and the weather is the most dependable if weather is ever dependable.

I love May---the flowers are out and the days are longer.

It's colder (cooler) and wetter in the north. Cool is nice in August, but it becomes cold in February.

That being said, Italy has palm trees and snow. We were in Rome in November, and it was in the low 70's, heaven for New Englanders but nothing for people from LA.

I like October best.

Italy, like most countries, has different climate zones.

You will get much more accurate responses if you tell us where you plan to travel.

ekscrunchy-- the OP is asking exactly that -- >>is it different in different parts of the country?<<. Obviously, she will use the shared experience(s) to choose where and when.

Emily-- I loved Rome in April; not hot nor too cool. Sicily: same.

I love April and May because the days are longer, but I also love Italy in October and November. I like January also.

I don't really like going to Europe in July and August, too crowded for my taste.

Have a great time!

Italy has several micro climates that will be different from the rest of the country - Sicily hotter and the mountains in the north cooler (or much colder in winter).

To me May is the best time - warm but not hot, long days and most sights on summer hours - but not to many tourists yet.

March can be quite chilly and rainy, too cold for any beach - still winter in the north (as in skiing)

We like May and late September and early October. We have almost always had perfect weather in Italy.
