Best Route to Take in Italy

I am helping my daughter plan her honeymoon to Italy. They want to visit Rome, Tuscany (siena area), Cinque Terra, and Venice. Probably fly into Rome and return flight from Venice. What would be the best order to do, Cinque Terra or Tuscany after Rome. Time is an issue, they don't have a lot of time and need to minimize the amount/time of backtracking. Transportation suggestions between the locations would also be appreciated.
Thanks

Absolutely do Tuscany after Rome, it will be on the way up to CT, about half way and then it will be a straight shot across Italy from CT to Venice. I am helping a niece do the same trip, but in reverse order.

Hi Bill,

You need to tell us how much time they do have.

Dayle,
Sorry about not including the time they have. It is short, they will be spending 2 nights in each of the 4 locations. Departing from Washington DC on September 19, 2006 and returning on September 29,2006.

Do them a favor and convince them that 4 destinations are too much for that time. The CT is the one that does not fit--too far after that to Venice.

I was thinking the same thing about too may locations. My daughter would probably opt to skip Rome. So, if Rome were dropped from the itinerary, what would be the best route, keeping Venice for last, where would be the best place to fly in to.

If you're flying into Rome, don't drop it. Given 8 nights, I'd definitely drop 1 location. SPend 3 nts Rome, 2 Tuscany and 3 in Venice. ROme and Venice deserve at least 3 nts each. Tuscany will be a quick visit, but a nice change of pace from Rome.

If you skip Rome--which I understand--then fly into Pisa and home from Venice. Very doable using BA or AF.
