best route from Provence to Lake Como
I will be driving from Aix en Provence to Lake Como and want to stop overnight about halfway, preferably in some quaint and interesting town. Any suggestions?

I would take the scenic drive through Sisteron (looks great from the freeway, only OK, IMO, from the inside) to Enbrum (stop & visit) to Briancon and stay overnight there (real cute). Next day, hit the freeway and high-tail it to Como.

I like Menton on the border. Or, go further, past Genoa, and stay in Aqui Terme at the darling Baur B&B.
