Best route for Portugal and Andalucia
Tentative itinerary for this May. We hate beaches and ruins but are really into food and wine. What do you think?

- 5 days in the Lisbon area, staying in Cascais. Maybe add one more day here.
- Drive to Beja, stopping at Evora
- Drive to Sevilla, 4 days, day trip to Cordoba
- Granada 1 day
- Ronda 1 days. Maybe one extra day here or Gibraltar
- Jerez 2 days
- Drive to the Douro up the east side of Portugal, maybe stopping in Coimbra, 2 days
- The Duoro 3 days
- Porto 1 day.

We have 21 days plus flying time, and I have allowed for one day for jet lag.

Hello.
I would do a small correction.
I wouldn't stay 2 days in Coimbra.
If you could "put" those two days in Douro Valley it would sound better, but attention, that from Jerez de la Frontera to Douro valley is quite a distance.
while in the north of Portugal, you could do a cruise in Douro river.
No ruins, good food and good wine.
But maybe the weather not as hot as it should, even though, with the daylight saving time, at 20:00 it is still day clear.
If you want some tips on a 3 day tour in Minho, check my web page in
www.tourist-in-portugal.web.pt

I don't know the part from ronda onward but it looks good to me- - however, surely it's a long way from Jerez all the way up to Porto. Why not stick this in between Lisbon and heading into Spain? Or do I need to look at a map?

Best wishes,

Rex
Thanks to those who took the time to make suggestions.

Clarification... I meant I would take 2 days to drive to the Douro from Jerez, with perhaps a stop for a couple of hours at Coimbra, or maybe the marble villages. We were hoping to stay in some quaint obscure place on the way, when we got tired of driving.

Also, I fly into Lisboa and out of Oporto, that is why the itinerary is geographically challenged.

Bob, why would you add a day to Granada and take from Sevilla? I have heard Sevilla needs at least 3 days, and I am using a day to go to Cordoba rather than uprooting and repacking for one more day.

Also, we are on a budget trip, stying in dives to afford nicer meals. I was under the impression that poussadas and river cruises on the Douro were quite dear. We really are interested in the both if we could find them at a bargain.

just did drive from Porto to Lisbon. LOVED the north. Please note that the bridge at Pinhao is CLOSED! Ferry service to cross the river was very infrequent on a recent Saturday. Beautiful area to drive through and worth a detour. Biggest surprise of our trip was Ourem, its ruined castle and a wonderful quinta. We stayed at quintas and pousadas and I preferred, in general the quintas to personalize our visit.
