Best place to Travel in December???

I'm trying to plan a 10 day trip w/ my husband over Christmas - what's the best place outside of the US/Canada/Mexico to go in December - Would like to do something besides sitting on the beach.

thanks

Paris, London, Rome, Venice, Vienna, Prague, any of the places really that suffer from terrible crowds in the warmer weather. As long as you dress appropriately, you can have a wonderful time in most cities, even if it rains.

If your travel will include 3-4 days prior to Christmas day, you might look into Germany's Christmas markets. Nuremberg's is the big one - I was there many years back. I plan to catch several in the Rhineland this year as they open over our Thanksgiving holiday.

Thailand and Hong Kong have perfect weather in December, no rain, and coolish temps in Hong Kong, a nice change from the usual hot and humid. All the Hong Kong skyscrapers are lit with neon in a quite over-the-top manner. New Year's Eve watching fireworks on a Phuket beach is fantastic.

Well, I know this is the Europe board, but how about Central or South America? It will be summer there then. I am going to Costa Rica in January.
