Hello all, the best sounds like great! We are going in August during Festival and I am soooo excited. No one has mentioned Tattoo? I even have my tkts already! It looks fabulous! I am neither Scots or Irish, but I like them both.... I can not compare the two, it is like apples and oranges to me. So both "Lands", here I come(hide all your beers <g>! Judy ;-)

Top of my list for Scotland has to be the Isle of Skye, especially the Quiraing. Breathtaking! Getting to Skye from Inverness via the Wester Ross Coastal Train was just magic. A night in Plockton at a shoreside B & B and the mysterious Broch towers at Glenelg. Take me back! Please!

I am glad someone mentioned the Festivals and the Tattoo. I like the countryside and the people, but for theater in August, Ediburgh is where you want to go. If you haven't seen the Tattoo, and are there while it is on, it's a heck of a show with that Castle as a backdrop.

1985 - The Isle of Mull <BR>Driving from Tobermory to Dervaig, we came over a hill and there was nothing but empty spaces to be seen for miles around us. We stopped the car and got out. Silence. Not a sound to be heard, not even the wind. It was breathtaking!

After 3 trips, Scotland has become my favorite European destination. Best memories: Edinburgh--the friendliest people on earth; the beautiful stone biuldings; Marsella & David, owners of the Dunedin Guest House; La Bon Vie--fabulous French restaurant with 5-star service & food and McDonald's prices; going over the highlands into Oban--picturesque, town that is the gateway to the Isles. Geez, can't wait to get back.... Thanks for asking!
