Best neighborhoods in Munich

We will be staying in Munich for two weeks in 2011. We will rent an apartment. We are looking for the recommendations for neighborhoods - in a residential area but near the center of the city.
We will not have a car.

Bogenhausen is the most expensive.
Nymphenburg, Sendling, Lehel the classics
Neuperlach, Hasenbergl the don'ts

The rest is o.k. too

We were in Munich in Sept ( before Ocotbarfest) for 5 days in an apt.
We stayed between Bavarianring ( bordering the Otbfst. grounds) and Lindwurmstrasse, not far from Goetheplatz metro. It was walking distance to center, very quiet and night, many food shops on Lindwurmstrasse.
Don't know what the area is referred to.

We spent a week in the Nymphenburg neighborhood a few years ago and we really liked it. Nice neighborhood, reasonably to the city center, but a little outside.

Bogenhausen (closest to center), Nymphenburg, Harlaching (further out). All have good public transport.
