"The food was borderline fancy frou/frou, and quite high-priced."
It's very rare that I would ever "recommend" dining in a hotel, especially if you're a vacationing tourist, because very few hotels offer great cuisine that's either worth the price or just plain affordable.
However, if you're working (like me), eating in a hotel oftentimes becomes a necessary convenience you can't avoid and many guests at the Minerve eat in because its a good place to conduct business. And, sometimes, a meal will be good enough to brag about.
On gorgeous sunny days, I adore rooftop restaurants in Italy and I'm willing to pay the higher price for a cocktail to enjoy the special experience, the very same reason why I love the Florian in Venice. I do have my favorite views but I'm a firm believer in trying them all, if you can. It's so much fun.

After favorable posts I contacted the del senato in rome. They have offered me a double superior overlooking pantheon @ 265 euro. Or the Senior Suite with no view at 478 euro. Please help, I think 478 is high for no view, even though it's a suite. And I don't think the double superior will do because of posts regarding how small these rooms truely are, any more suggestions?

Having a sea view from your balcony in Ravello or a view out huge French windows of the Eiffel Tower is one thing, but a "view" out the window of the Pantheon a few feet away? I don't reguard a "view" in Rome as meaning that much, unless it included some rooftop terrace overlooking the entire city. Just my opinion, of course.

Patrick, I totally agree. Unless they could guarantee a large room on the sixth floor with one of those terrific terraces, I'd have to pass on the del Senato.
My favorite view of the Pantheon is from an outdoor table at Bar Pantheon with a lovely cocktail in my hand, surrounded by friends. Then its back to my quiet, bright, spacious apartment overlooking the Farnese. Now that's what I consider money well spent. It pays to do your homework, folks.

To NYC & Patrick,
Still looking for that "location" if the del senato is not right for us. Any other ideas, I'm not a B&B lover but I don't shy away from small charming inns and hotels. What about Eden, Raphael, or De Russie for location?
