Best Itinerary Rome to Venice?
We arrive in Rome on a Saturday in September and fly out of Venice on Monday nine days later. Everything in between is open. Can anyone suggest a good itinerary? We would like to spend some time in the countryside and maybe by the sea. No car planned but that is possible. Thanks!

That gives you eight days in Italy. Do you want to see Rome and Venice or are they only arrival and departure points?
Without knowing your interests, my suggestion would be three full days in Rome, three days somewhere in the country in Tuscany or Umbria, and two full days in Venice.
A car would be good for the three days in the country; you do not need it to get to Florence or Perugia (or whatever city is closest to your location in the country) nor to get from that city to Venice.

Hi cp,
>Can anyone suggest a good itinerary?<
I would take the first available train to Florence, stay for 5 days, visit Siena by bus and Orvieto by train, and go to Venice.

I'd suggest at least 4 days in Rome (one for the Vatican alone, plus 3-4 more to see all the other sights), take a 1.5 hour train ride up to Florence, stay there for 2-3 days, then head to Venice (another 2 hours or so on the train) for the last 2 days.
