We have stayed at the Muguet 3 times and have brought food to the room--not a chicken though. We have had bread and other foods quite prominently in the room for the maids to see. I think there could be a LOT of reasons for them not to want you to eat a chicken in the room--insect, etc. but also grease on the bedspreads. That said, I would not have paraded it by the desk either. Another user of the Muguet has told me that she has even been allowed to store food in the kitchen fridge. As for "wanting you to have their breakfast", we have done that both ways also. One trip we used the quite nice breakfast offerings and another we went to Cafe Marche on rue Cler every morning to read the paper and have coffee and croissant for far less than the hotel. It doesn't really need to be all one way.

Poor Mark had a bad experience; I on the other hand have stayed there many times and have always brought food back, like Gretchen. One time I had my granddaughters staying there and we brought takeaway from Fauchon on Motte-Piquet and ate at a table in the nice courtyard. I have ordered pizza delivered. I will ask Catherine if she remembers the episode with Mark and his daughter, since this seems to be an isolated case. I encourage anyone to stay at the Relais Bosquet as Mark suggested, very nice, well located, but considerably more expensive than the Muguet. I think most hotels would prefer you not bring in food but if done discreetly it is tolerated. Probably best to use the military maxim: don't ask, don't tell.
